Andriy Yarmolenko Can The New Ukraine Coach Inspire His Former Team Mates To Euro 2024

Andriy Yarmolenko: Can the new Ukraine coach inspire his former team-mates to EURO 2024?

Having replaced Andriy Shevchenko as Ukraine coach, former Tottenham striker Andriy Yarmolenko has the chance to guide his country to EURO 2024

Yarmolenko captained Ukraine during their impressive run to the quarter-finals at EURO 2020 and has been handed the reins by the Ukrainian Football Association just eight months later

The 32-year-old has taken over from his former international team-mate Andriy Shevchenko, who guided Ukraine to the quarter-finals of EURO 2020 but left his role in August 2021.

Yarmolenko, who won 106 caps for Ukraine, scoring 45 goals, has never coached at any level before but will be hoping to use his experience as a player to help Ukraine qualify for their fourth EURO.

Ukraine have been drawn in Group C for EURO 2024 qualifying, alongside England, Italy, North Macedonia and Malta.

They will begin their campaign at home to England on 26 March 2023, before travelling to Italy three days later.

Yarmolenko will be hoping to guide Ukraine to their first major tournament since EURO 2020, having also represented his country at the 2006 FIFA World Cup and the 2012 and 2016 EUROs.

The former West Ham and Borussia Dortmund winger will be assisted by former Ukraine international Oleksandr Shovkovskiy, who was part of Shevchenko's coaching staff.
